Sir, - I was not surprised to read that passengers of Dublin Bus failed to collect £30,000 in overpayments in the first six months' operation of the "no-change policy".
Passengers on Dublin Bus, particularly those who live outside the Pale, find it most inconvenient to go to Dublin Bus offices to retrieve the change they are entitled to. Surely the whole concept of legal tender is that a person paying for an item uses legal tender and obtains change in legal tender. Dublin Bus refuses to do this. Perhaps we culchies should decide to get our own back by making payments for tickets with promissory notes which could be redeemed by Dublin Bus at each passenger's home address. - Yours, etc.
