A chara, - This is, of course, a golden age for all those associated with the building industry. However, in such a time of plenty, can anyone explain to me the justification for the system in place in Cork city for new houses?
It appears that there is no alternative but to accept stage payments as a condition of contract when buying a new house there. This means first-time buyers like myself must start drawing down their mortgage well before the house has been completed as well as paying rent for accommodation in the meantime. On top of this, the builder is not bothered in the slightest how long it takes to complete the house as he gets practically all his money well before the house is finished.
Why does this system exist in Cork and why is it tolerated? - Is mise, P. O Longaigh,
