Sir, - I would like to see the GAA do more to advise supporters about buying tickets on match days. On O'Connell Street at 1 p.m. recently, I observed a supporter having an angry exchange with a tout who was charging £50 for a stand ticket for the hurling semi finals. The supporter was obviously unaware, as was I until I got there, that tickets for all sections of the ground were on sale from the GAA near Croke Park.
If stewards with loudspeakers were positioned outside the main pre match meeting areas, they could inform people where tickets, if available, could, be bought. if no tickets are available, they could act as focal points where ticketless fans might hope to meet non outing fans with excess tickets.
One steward performed this latter function outside Pairc Na nGael at the Limerick v. Clare match, enabling my group to pick up four priceless tickets at face value. Anything that helps to reduce the profits of the tout is worth it. - Yours, etc.,
Clondalkin,
Dublin 22.
