Sir, – When I read Malachy Clerkin’s match report on the camogie all-Ireland final (Sport, September 17th), I was surprised to see a quote from JJ Doyle, the Wexford team manager: “These girls have made history. No Wexford team – male or female – has won three-in-a-row in over 100 years. And I don’t know whether it will be done again.”

Perhaps JJ Doyle is too young to realise that the Wexford senior football team were the first county team to win four-in-a-row (1915, 1916, 1917, 1918) all-Ireland titles. I know because my dad, Toddy Pierse, played on the 1918 team (in fact Toddy scored one point in a low scoring match. The final score was Wexford five points, Tipperary four points).

For the record: Wexford have won five football, six hurling, and seven camogie All-Ireland senior titles to date.

Now I look forward to the camogie team’s attempt to emulate the football team. Roll on September 2013! – Yours, etc,
