Madam, - In his Irishman's Diary of August 9th, Kevin Myers stated that the only thing the Dreyfus case and the case of my father, Captain James Kelly, had in common was that both men were army officers. He fails to point out that both men were hung out to dry by the very people they had dedicated their professional lives to serving.

Within hours of my father's death, the Taoiseach issued a personal statement attesting to his honourable character. While this is appreciated, I feel the Taoiseach should now take the extra step and issue a posthumous apology to my father on behalf of the government. It is common knowledge that evidence was tampered with and that lies were told at the highest level. It seems that the official policy in regard to this shameful episode is to ignore it and let historians make of the facts what they will. That the likes of Mr. Myers may be the historians of the future is not a comforting thought. - Yours, etc.,

JUSTIN J. KELLY, Somerville, Massachusetts, USA.
