Madam, - I refer to Frank McDonald's "10 ways to make a difference to the environment" (The Irish Times, May 10th) and in particular to item no. 8: "Cancel new Abbey Theatre in Docklands". How right he is.
This unrepeatable opportunity to relocate the Abbey to the city's main thoroughfare cannot be passed over. As far back as March 2002, more than 4,000 people were sufficiently interested in the future of the Abbey to sign a petition to move the National Theatre to the Carlton site. I implore the developers, Chartered Land, to look at this possibility and consider what it would mean to Ireland, to tourism and to O'Connell Street. - Yours, etc,
