Madam, - Some years ago after the second World War, the Americans decided to rid themselves of vast quantities of obsolete tanks, guns, lorries, jeeps and paraphernalia of the past conflict. They did this by dumping all of it at sea.

Within a few years, the dumping area became an area of vast fish stocks. It is also well known that shipwrecks such as the Lusitania are fertile fishing grounds.

Insurmountable problems for this country are the lack of space for dumping, and the ugliness of any of them.

There are about 100,000 cars taken off the roads every year, add to these the thousands of fridges, washing machines, etc., which take up vast dumping space.

Is it not possible that these be collected and dumped at sea? Dublin Bay would come to mind for city rejects.

The result would save immense dumping space, would bring a bonanza of fishing to all sea dumping areas and would control trawlers who scrape the bottom which eliminates all species of fish in the area.

Just a suggestion. - Yours, etc.,
