Madam, - Many thanks to The Irish Times (September 7th) for allowing those of us living in the south-west a glimpse of Martyn Turner's fantastic new stamps on the theme of Celtic Cats.
Sadly, our main post offices cannot be relied upon to stock new stamps. Here in the premier tourist town of Killarney for long periods of the year it is impossible to purchase any of the very beautiful and imaginative stamps, which so well represent the cultural richness of our island.
Unable to purchase Celtic Cats stamps in Killarney I ventured by train to Mallow where the main post office had no stamps other than the somewhat ordinary definitive stamps.
It is absurd that in the south-west we have to rely upon friends and relations in Dublin to use special stamps when sending us greeting cards. - Yours, etc,
ALAN WHELAN,
