Sir, - I was deeply shocked recently on visiting the Travellers' housing in Rathfarnham, opposite Nutgrove Shopping Centre. The entrance to the site was a lake of filthy water about 20 yards long. In dry weather there is a five-foot square pothole.A rubbish dump was dead ahead, and beside that a jumble of concrete blocks. It looked like a house had been knocked or fallen down. A huge skip in the centre of the development, so high that a Harlem Globetrotter would be hard put to land a bag of rubbish in it, with the result that it was surrounded by burst bags.Piles of rubbish everywhere! No play area for the children, although there is plenty of space. The children I met were charming and eager to help and never asked for a penny.I think it is a terrible indictment of our society and our priorities, that in these days of the Celtic Tiger, these people are condemned to live in a "Celtic Ghetto". - Yours, etc.,
Elinor Johnson, Churchtown, Dublin 14.
