Sir, - Further to the article by John Waters (July 6th), I think the election of Dana is a genuine statement of the ability of modern Ireland to handle diversity without the usual hysterical reactionary stances being taken by extremists of left and right.
I don't particularly agree with many of Dana's viewpoints, but I am becoming increasingly uneasy in the company of people who agree with me on the major issues confronting contemporary Ireland.
Yesterday's underdogs have become today's tyrants and if I truly believe in the principles of democracy, I have no option but to oppose my former friends(?). All reappraisal/change is painful but the times we live in demand it. - Yours, etc., Paul Kenny,
