Madam, - The removal of a picture commemorating the victims of the Enniskillen "Poppy Day" atrocity from the town's fire station (The Irish Times, October 2nd) indicates just how difficult it will be ever to achieve a united Ireland.
This incident demonstrates that there are mindsets in Northern Ireland which will take at least a generation to penetrate and change. In this regard nobody should be fooled into thinking that Aer Lingus flights and infrastructure funding from the Republic will do very much to advance the laudable aim of a 32-county Ireland. - Yours, etc,
Cllr DECLAN MacPARTLIN, Camolin, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.
