Madam, - I sympathise with those who were upset by the weather and chaos at Castletown House last weekend, but I can't help wondering if they are over-reacting.

Didn't they come for some misty, water-coloured memories? Perhaps they should take Barbra's advice and what's too painful to remember, simply choose to forget. - Yours, etc,

Madam, - I am aghast at Ronan Collins's bizarre request for an apology to America's very own royal, Barbra Streisand. Whatever we may feel about the disorganisation of Irish event management and promotion, is this news to people? The most important issue for this reader is the continued blindness of the Irish consumer. Prices upwards of €500 are absolutely scandalous. Maybe MCD and Ms Streisand owe Irish consumers an apology for creating a new high-water mark in our rip-off society.

As for Ireland's inability "to attract a true talent and cultural icon", Mr Collins should try a Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen show in the Point Depot for about €60 to € 70. Caveat emptor! - Yours, etc,
