Madam, - Martin Mansergh, quoting Terry de Valera's memoir of his father Eamon, holds that "a lesser man might well have yielded to the might and strength of the US and Britain, both then and in the earlier part of the war". He is referring to Dev's holding the line on neutrality after the general dismissal of the League of Nations and any attempt to establish a legal framework for international relations (Opinion, January 22nd).
