Sir, - I am doing some research in Trinity College into children's story Bibles. In other parts of Europe the genre goes back to the mid-17th century. However, the earliest I can find written in the Irish language is a three-volume Scealta on mBiobla by an t-Athair Peadar O Laoire, starting in 1922.
The earliest one written in English and used in Ireland that I have come across is Charles Dickens's The Life of our Lord, published posthumously in 1934. Although that is not a "full" Bible, it is worth mentioning.
I would be most grateful if any of your readers could give me any information about any earlier children's story Bibles in Irish or in English and used in Ireland, even if they appear incomplete. Thanking you in anticipation. - Is mise,
