Sir, - I am a 25-year-old West of Ireland girl working in Dublin city for the past nine months. I'm writing this letter to highlight the lack of helpfulness that seems to be prevalent in this city.
On Monday morning, while driving towards the city centre to work, I discovered I had a flat tyre. Trying to manoeuvre safely out of two lanes of traffic is difficult at the best of times, but while driving on just three good wheels, it seems almost impossible. I managed to drive my car up a side-street where I proceeded to change the tyre. At least 15 males passed me by on the footpath, but not one of them even asked if I needed any help. There was a man sitting in his car across the road from me, and I got the distinct impression he got some kind of pleasure from watching me struggle to change the wheel.
I did manage to complete the job, but I was disappointed at the complete lack of assistance from anyone. Is the age of chivalry long dead and gone in this city? - Yours, etc.,
Cathy Sheridan, Whitehall Road, Terenure, Dublin 6W.
