Madam, - Gerald Morgan (September 9th) takes offence at tradespeople insulting the Christian tradition through marketing Christmas in September and asks for Government action on this matter.
I would like to think he would have considerable secular support. Christmas did, after all, subsume an older pagan festival of mid-winter. To be celebrating mid-winter before the autumn equinox is a folly that strikes at the heart of our civilisation far beyond religious sensibilities. - Is mise,
