Sir, - Fr David O'Hanlon (December 3rd) compares artificial contraception versus "natural" family planning with induced abortion versus spontaneous abortion. This comparison is senseless. Spontaneous abortion is unintentional; however natural, family planning is a deliberate attempt not to cause pregnancy.
My point is this: as soon as one decides to prevent pregnancy, by whatever means, one is defying the "will of God", as defined by the Roman Catholic hierarchy. The only salient difference between the rhythm method and say, condoms, is that the former is much less effective. - Yours, etc., Bernard Kelly,
