Sir, - The Subject of homosexuality has not been allowed a summer break this year. Rev Michael Manning (August 17th) airs traditional disgust and the firm belief that the Bible condemns homosexual unions. However, careful examination of the Book of Leviticus and the Pauline epistles merely reveals references to promiscuous same-sex encounters, which all responsible homosexual people would regard with as much distaste as St Paul did.
Homosexual people can find enduring happiness in permanent relationships, in spite of opposition from clergy who harp on about a small minority. Perhaps such clergy are suffering from an objective disorder and should master this tendency by availing themselves of spiritual help and support. - Yours, etc., Penelope Dent,
Old Court Grove,
