Madam, - Firstly I would like to say how pleased I am The Irish Times is now readily available in the UK.
For years years it has been possible to try and keep abreast of news from Ireland only from second-class newspapers and the British press - invariably inaccurate and biased. While delighting in an opportunity to promote their circulation they are quick to provide figures that would lead their average reader to assume that the entire Catholic Church in Ireland has been involved in the recent child sex abuse scandals.
Notwithstanding the gravity of this appalling issue, it was heartening to read the letters of Helen Costello and Patrick J O'Brien in your edition of November 15th.
Total truth and real facts are the only way forward. - Yours, etc,
SEAMUS MAHON, Lower Beeding, West Sussex, England.
