Sir - Unlike your reporter, we do not see the birth of a camel in the Florilegio circus as a happy event (The Irish Times, March 1st). Surely the prospect of another life spent in captivity for the amusement of human beings is nothing to celebrate? And whatever the circumstances of its birth, nothing will dissuade us from our view that using animals as entertainment is morally wrong.
Signor Farinella, the circus owner, is looking for names for the latest addition to his entourage. We can suggest a few: Degraded, Captive, Environmentally Exiled, etc. - Yours, etc.,
Anne Fox, PHAROS, (People in Harmony with Animals - Respect for Other Species), Fr Griffin Avenue, Galway.
