Madam, - I am very pleased that Hunger, the film about Bobby Sands written by Enda Walsh, will be appearing at the Cannes Film Festival: Michael Fassbender, who plays Sands, is a compelling and charismatic actor. Your film correspondent, Michael Dwyer, rightly reports that Fassbender played Michael Collins to Mel Smith's Churchill in the play Allegiance at Edinburgh in 2006. The stage chemistry was terrific.
Screen writers in Hollywood have recently been on strike for more rights and recognition. So could I make the point, just for the record, that I am the author of the play Allegiance? Writers do deserve to have their authorship accredited. - Yours, etc,
MARY KENNY, Kildare Street, Dublin 2.
