Sir, – Frank McNally was wondering why the swallows were flying so low in the good weather around the golf course he was sitting beside (An Irishman's Diary, June 29th). The clever birds have discovered that the golfers walking and wheeling trollies on the grassy fairways disturb an abundance of insects for the swallows to satisfy themselves. Of course the worse the player, the more insects are disturbed. So by not getting birdies at least you are helping the feathered variety. – Yours, etc,
