Madam, - This was my daughter's experience on the DART the other evening.
She pressed the button to open the door at Glenageary Station but the door would not open. Neither would the other door in the carriage.
The train moved off, so she pulled the communications cord (penalty €600 for improper use) and the train gradually stopped. After a short stop, it started off again without anyone coming to see what was wrong. My daughter then pulled the cord again several times but the train continued on to Dalkey Station.
On arrival at Dalkey, no one could get out again so she decided to go up into another carriage where she and several others alighted. Luckily, she saw a train going the opposite direction which had just pulled into the station. She and all the others raced across the bridge and caught the other train.
I was wondering what would have happened if something more serious had occurred. Nobody seemed to be bothered that the communication cord had been pulled! - Yours, etc.,
AIDEEN O'CONNOR, Ballinclea Road, Killiney, Co Dublin.
