Madam, – If only a tiny fraction of money spent on road infrastructure, had been spent on contingency equipment such as snow ploughs and other machines, we would not be responding to this crisis like some old and inefficient communist regime dealing with an unexpected political upheaval.
The impact this is having on so many people is inexcusable. In the latter regime, somebody would be shot! We are too polite for our own good. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – As someone who couldn’t get the car out of my estate due to the amount of snowfall over the previous 48 hours, I had to avail of the services of Dublin Bus (route 49) to get me to and from work. Can I publicly pass on my thanks to the men and women who risked their own safety getting to the depot to collect their buses to ensure that the rest of us who dare not or could not drive to work, had public transport. While the bus service is normally on the receiving end of bad press, I for one will be happy to sing its praise. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Vitaly Kravchenko’s picture of Siberian efficiency in the face of harsh conditions is very encouraging (December 21st). Perhaps we could send a large government fact-finding delegation there for an indefinite period. – Yours, etc,
