Commemorating 1916 Rising

Madam, - The 1916-1921 Club was founded in the 1940s in an effort to heal divisions of the Civil War. The founder members had taken part in the 1916 Rising and in the subsequent Irish War of Independence.

This club still exists today and is made up of persons who subscribe to the original objectives of its founders. Its main objective is to honour and remember the dead who fought for Irish freedom and all those who worked for the same cause.

The club approves and supports the initiative of the Irish Government to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 1916 Rising by an official military parade and other proposed events.

The association encourages its members to support and attend the 1916 military commemoration parade on Easter Sunday. It also hopes that a large number of Irish citizens will show by their presence at the parade that they still appreciate the sacrifices of our forefathers, who gave their lives and suffered much for the precious gift of freedom that we enjoy today.
