Sir, - Despite losing the second World War, Germany now rules the economy of Europe. Despite losing the second World War, Japan now rules the economy of most of south-east Asia and almost brought the American economy to its knees.
There is a delicious irony, therefore, in seeing the same thing happen here. The opening of what has been referred to as "High Street, England" at the junction of the N4 and M50 marks another step in the economic conquest of a country that could not be subjugated by 800 years of military occupation.
