Madam, - As a resident of Glasnevin living close to Croke Park, I was surprised to see at lunchtime last Saturday the kind of traffic jams around our road and at Hart's Corner that we normally get only after a big match.
I don't think these people were making any kind of demonstration. Instead, I think I was not the only person who forgot that Saturday was our "national" car-free day.
May I suggest to the Government that it supports and advertises this day better in future by encouraging people to use public transport, rather than by closing roads, which only increases the likelihood of traffic congestion.
In addition, perhaps all Dublin businesses could be encouraged to email a reminder to their staff the day before future "car-free days". - Yours, etc,
FIONN MACCUMHAILL, Iona Road, Dublin 9.
