Sir, - If Mr Ahern is concerned about the low polls in elections and referendums, he should ensure that polling is held at the weekend when many of those at present disenfranchised by their inability to attend their polling station, such as students, travelling salesmen and others who have to be away from home during the week or have to work during polling hours, would be able to cast their votes. This would also mean that school programmes would not be interrupted. It would not seem necessary for any committee to examine the matter as the setting of the date should not require a great deal of intellectual effort. - Yours, etc.,
Ballinclea Heights, Killiney, Co Dublin.
