Sir, - Mr Gerry Adams (Opinion, February 3rd) claims that the Provisional IRA's guns have been silent and out of commission for five years.
There are 25 good reasons to disbelieve this. They are Frank Kerr, Malachy Clark, Mickey Mooney, Anthony Kane, Paul Devine, Francis Collins, Christopher Johnston, Martin McCrory, Ian Lyons, Inan Ul-baq Bashir, John Jeffries, Jerry McCabe, Sean Devlin, James Bradwell, Stephen Restorick, Roland Graham, David Johnston, Brendan Campbell, Robert Dougan, Kevin Conway, Andrew Kearney, Eamon Collins, Paul Downey and Charles Bennet.
Even by its own lights the IRA was "off ceasefire" between February 1996 and the autumn of 1997. What will Mr Adams try for an encore? An article that there really are fairies at the bottom of the garden? - Yours, etc.,
Steven King, Newtownards, Co Down.
