Madam, – It was my privilege to be present in Derry on June 15th representing Justice for the Forgotten and to witness the absolute joy and relief of the Bloody Sunday families after 38 long years of waiting for the truth to be finally acknowledged by the British authorities.

We were very heartened by British prime minister David Cameron’s remarks during his memorable statement and apology that it is right to pursue the truth with vigour and thoroughness and that openness and frankness about the past, however painful, does not make us weaker but rather stronger.

In light of these encouraging and positive words, we would now urge our Government to press the British prime minister to comply with the unanimous all-party motion adopted by Dáil Éireann on July 10th, 2008. The motion called on the British government to allow access by an independent, international judicial figure to all original documents held by it relating to all the cross-Border bombings of the 1970s, which were withheld from the Barron inquiries, with the aim of assisting in the resolution of these crimes. – Yours, etc,

MARGARET URWIN,

Justice for the Forgotten,

Lower Gardiner Street,

Dublin 1.
