Madam, - According to Ronan Furlong (July 15th), fear of being labelled "unpatriotic" has stopped politicians in the South from having a public debate over Southern taxpayers' money being used for the funding of Northern roads.
Perhaps if Mr. Furlong were to venture outside of that part of the island to which he has confined himself he would recognise that improving of the road system in the North will be beneficial to people on both sides of the Border. Take, for example, those commuting between Donegal and Dublin, or those operating a business on an all-Ireland basis.
It is Mr Furlong and others who share his view who need to wake up to the realities of the world by realising that a small island cannot afford to stay divided on issues such as this if we are to compete on a world-wide basis. - Your, etc,
DÓNALL MAC MURCHAIDH,
