Madam, - I was interested to read that the government will give €580 million for the improvement of roads in Northern Ireland.
This decision should create plenty of opportunities for the Irish construction industry. For example, a bypass for Armagh, if carefully planned would be able to flatten Eamhain Macha and at the same time cut a swathe through the battlefields of Benburb and the Yellow Ford. A northern coast road could preserve the Giant's Causeway by cementing it over, and our tunnellers' machines would do a nice job on Derry's Walls and Cave Hill.
Why be stingy with our know-how? - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL DRURY, Avenue Louise, 1050 Brussels.
