Madam, - Bill Roe's description of cyclists as "easily the most inconsiderate of the various groups using our public roads" (November 12th) tars us with a pretty indiscriminate brush.
Brass-necked cyclists can be seen every day, but I urge readers to look out for the less conspicuous of us as well. Careful cyclists do exist; you just don't notice them so much.
This is a breed to be encouraged - and the Government can do it quickly, cheaply and decisively by copying continental-style legislation. Where drivers assume responsibility by default in any altercation between cycle and motor, their heightened care and solicitude quickly become obvious.
This alone would coax more timid cyclists back out of the closet and on to the streets, freeing space and clearing the air for all of us. - Yours, etc,
