Sir, - I agree with David Smith (May 10th) about cyclists and the law. Those who ignore the rules seem to be in the majority. They are danger to their fellow-cyclists and other users, and they give the rest of us a bad name.
On the subject of large vehicles making left turns, could I make the following appeal? Please indicate your turn well before the junction. Otherwise, you will find cyclists halfway along your vehicle when you start to turn. We are not psychic and cannot anticipate such manoeuvres.
The other thing that really annoys me is when some bus drivers start to move off while a cyclist is halfway alongside in the process of overtaking what was a stationary vehicle. I don't know whether or not the driver has checked his/her mirror and seen me, and I either have to slam on the brakes or speed up to put a safe distance between me and the bus. Also, what is the obsession with pulling in sharply just in front of a cyclist, instead of pausing a few meagre seconds until the cyclist has passed the bus stop? - Yours, etc.,
