A chara, - Is it any wonder that cynicism about politicians is at an all-time low when the Opposition can on the one hand be baying for political blood at every possible opportunity, and on the other hand bemoan what they view as the instability of the Government and the possibility of an imminent election?
Considering that early in the Sheedy Affair, certain politicians became hysterical in the Dail, attempting vainly, erroneously and completely without foundation to imply a political connection to his early release, is it not even remotely possible that the Opposition would, indeed, have "gone ballistic" at the revelation of an innocent and standard representation by the Taoiseach? And what good, exactly, would such over-hyped hysteria have done for people's faith in politics, government and the judiciary?
Sometimes there are good times to say things, and sometimes there are better times. And frankly, I would have thought Mary Harney knew the meaning of prudence. - Is mise,
