Sir, - I would like to point out to Kevin O'Sullivan that it should not be too costly to curb the outbreaks of salmonella. Every case reported, which was caused by eggs, was traced to imports from Northern Ireland. A highly successful campaign to eliminate salmonella from our own flocks has yielded good results. Why has not the public been informed of this? Why do we continue to import salmonella-infected eggs from the North? Why are they not labelled and, indeed, given a warning notice? Do our authorities not care about our reputation for safe wholesome food of good flavour? -Yours, etc., Myrtle Allen,
Ballynalve House,
