Madam, – At last sanity is beginning to surface in this national convoluted quagmire (“Day of reckoning for Moriarty tribunal”, Opinion, May 29th, by the incisive writer Stephen Collins). At last our politicians are whispering in the hallways of power: enough of this interminable extremely expensive balderdash.

Our country is floundering in a sea of financial woes and hundreds of millions are being spent on this ineffective colossus which squandered its moral authority when it “tried to ignore” crucial evidence given to it eight years ago.

This evidence alone should have stopped the tribunal in its tracks, because it in effect said: the question about a recent shareholder (Dermot Desmond) did not affect the legality of the successful bid. Note, this was from the Attorney General’s office to the Department of Communications.

The sign of true political leadership and courage is when men know in their hearts something is wrong and decide to take effective action. That time has come. – Yours, etc,
