Sir - Ms Aine Ni Chonnail is quoted (The Irish Times, January 17th) as saying: "Every day I dream that Hannelore Kohl will give the bastard [Helmut Kohl] an extra lump of suet to kill him." Assuming that your quote is correct, I would like to say the following.
I am a German national and by no means a supporter of Helmut Kohl and his party. I have never voted for him, nor will I vote for his party in 1998. However, I take great offence at the fact that someone may publicly state that the head of government of another country, or any other ordinary mortal for that matter, is a "bastard", and that she is hoping he will be killed.
I would also be interested to know what the Department of Education, the management of a religious school in Clonakilty, as well as parents and children have to say about a teacher who publicly expresses her "hope" for the killing of a particular person, whom she regards as a "bastard".- Yours, etc.,
