Madam, – Now that Minister for the Environment John Gormley has got his very important anti stag hunting Bill passed, perhaps he might give some urgent attention to the Dublin City Council’s application for a foreshore licence, made almost two years ago? This was mentioned by Stephen Collins, who pointed out that potential EU fines are starting to clock up because over reliance on landfill is in breach of an EU directive which came into effect in 2010 (Opinion, June, 26th).

If indeed Ireland Inc is fined by the EU, will Mr Gormley pay out of his own resources, or will the taxpayer have to stump up as usual due to his dallying? – Yours, etc,
