Madam, - Like many of your readers, I was shocked and dismayed to read of the death of Brendan McWilliams.
Often, on days when the headlines and news were gloomy and relentless, he provided a beacon of light. At times, like Goldsmith's villagers, I marvelled "that one small head could carry all he knew". Truly he was an erudite yet humble man.
He now deserves a safe haven on a fairer shore. May he rest in peace. - Yours, etc,
