Sir, - I congratulate Kathy Sheridan on her article (January 20th) on the death of the four women from starvation. I lived in West Africa some time ago where I was working for APSO in a country called Benin. The locals kept telling me that they believed that individuality was a huge thing among Europeans. Ms Sheridan's article bears this out: we live in a world where no one can get themselves involved in anyone else's business.
We've heard for years now about famine, and more recently AIDS in Africa, but let's focus our minds on this problem that we have here in Ireland and the rest of Europe. - Yours, etc.,
David O'Connell, White Oaks, Knocknacarra, Galway.
