Sir, - Deaths on our roads are continuing unabated. Can we change our habits? How long has it taken to get the message across about drink driving? How long will it take to curb speeding? The Government will govern and put more laws on the statute books to curb this latest menace to society. However, the future rests with our next generation of young people and their driving habits.
The children of the Gaelscoil in Cobh, Cork have recently launched a road safety campaign with the help of their teachers and parents. The campaign has received widespread publicity and acknowledgement. The children have distributed 3,000 leaflets urging motorists to slow down, and yellow and black ribbons to symbolise life and death.
Could this initiative by the Gaelscoil be the blueprint for a national campaign in which all our children would become better educated about road safety?
