Sir, - Well said, Peter Coogan (March 22nd)! Of course we need crash barriers! In Germany 35 years ago I was in a kilometre-long pile-up. Without the crash barrier we should have ploughed into four lanes of fast-moving oncoming traffic and many people would not have survived.
I am incensed that in a so-called civilised and wealthy State appalling multiple accidents are waiting to happen. Without crash barriers, we have death-trap roads inadequate for the speeds permitted.
With a huge increase in the number of drivers (many inexperienced) we lack patrols and penalties to enforce existing regulations.
