Sir, - Is it too harsh to suggest that TV commercials showing shiny new cars careering at breakneck speeds through rural roads (with a strange absence of other traffic) could conceivably be connected to the hundreds of smashed lives that are stretchered off our roads every year?
Could I propose that motor car companies perhaps begin to take a little bit of responsibility for their actions? Could our television stations adopt a moral tone that would prevent such ultimately damaging imagery from being the accepted standard?
If this is just one piece of the puzzle, it is at least an issue which can be addressed in the short term. By our tolerance of the driving forces behind the "hard man" lunacy that every driver in this country has seen on our roads, we are tacitly ensuring the continuing trend of boys being dead boys. - Is mise,
