Sir, - So, Aine Ni Chonaill (October 24th) feels that deportations of failed asylum-seekers are not happening quickly enough or in large enough numbers, and that this is an "injustice to Irish people"?
Let us remind ourselves of some of the stories behind the deportation figures, such as that of the woman who slit her wrists to avoid deportation, was bandaged up and put on the next flight. Or that of the man who was taken from his family home to the Garda station in the middle of the night "for questioning", and from there deported. He had been unaware even that his appeal had been refused, as the letter had gone to his lawyer, who was away on holiday.
Surely any injustice lies with a government which admits that it would be endangering people's lives to return them to their country of origin, yet persists in refusing them full refugee status.
Or maybe the real injustice to Irish people is the continued existence of Ms Ni Chonaill's organisation and the image it presents of this country - Yours, etc.,
