A chara, - Mr Eamon Ó Cuiv calls for a full spectrum of jobs in rural areas to absorb the growing number of redundant farmers; in the future there will be a core of 40,000 viable farms (The Irish Times April 23rd). Why not develop the enormous potential of eco-tourism and walking holidays?

Reasonable and responsible access to the countryside is, of course, an essential requirement for the sustainable success we need. The solution is largely in the Minister's own hands.
