Madam, - Jack Fagan's report about the proposed redevelopment of Hawkins House in Dublin (Commercial Property, September 26th) is welcome news. At last the end is nigh for those hideous, Stasi-style buildings. Many Dubliners were heartbroken at the loss of the Theatre Royal, which formerly stood on this site.
The area bounded by Pearse Street, Burgh Quay and D'Olier Street remarkable for its similarity to the old East Berlin. I hope that this area now gets the sympathy and attention it deserves and that Dublin City Council planners give it the careful consideration which is being extended to leafy Ballsbridge.
- Yours, etc,
JAMES CREANE, Furry Park Road, Dublin 5.
