A chara - Your Editorial (June 15th), berates Noel Dempsey for what is described as a "humiliating U-turn" on the dual mandate.
It's a wonder no-one mentions berating the fools in this country who persist in selfishly casting votes for single-issue, single-constituency Independent TDs to our national parliament somehow expecting them to act in the best interests of the country as a whole. It also reduces the ability of the main parties to form meaningful coalitions with stable majorities not reliant on these people.
Perhaps the best lesson of this debacle might be for people to cast less votes for Independents in national elections to allow well-intentioned Ministers like Noel Dempsey perform their job more capably (not to mention letting Seamus Brennan finish the babysitting and get back into Cabinet!) - Is mise, le meas,
