Madam, – I note your very comprehensive Cancer Special HEALTHplus (April 5th) does not include any reference to oral cancer. This type of cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and has increased by 42 per cent in the UK in the last 10 years. The majority of cases occur in people aged over 50 years but recent trends indicate a rising incidence in younger age groups. Over 400 cases are diagnosed every year in Ireland. Most of these cases are diagnosed by dentists.
The importance of regular visits to the dentist, for those with and without teeth, cannot be overstated. – Yours, etc,
