Madam, - The tidal wave in the US midterm election has swept Donald Rumsfeld from power. The American people have had enough of the endless war on offer from President Bush and his Republican Party.
In Ireland, however, our "Republican Party", the aptly named Soldiers of Destiny, backed President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld to the hilt by allowing hundreds of thousands of US troops use Shannon on their way to the war in Iraq , and when Joe Higgins TD attacks them for doing so, the reply is the old mantra that he is "anti-American".
After these election results it is much more logical to say it is they who are the "anti-Americans".
The question of how much support exists among the people for the grovelling, sycophantic, forelock touching attitude of the Irish political/media elite towards President Bush can be answered by making the use of Shannon Airport in his war an issue in the general election next May, and we intend to make it an issue. - Yours, etc,
ROGER COLE, Chair, Peace and Neutrality Alliance, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
